Beth’s Incredible Journey: The Legacy 10
Hi, I’m Beth. I’m 33 years old, and I live with cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic condition that affects all the organs, particularly the lungs and pancreas. CF fills these organs with mucus, making even basic functions—like breathing—a daily challenge. For me, something as fundamental as taking a deep breath feels like a monumental task. To put things into perspective, my lung capacity is less than half of what an average woman my age, size, and height would have. Yet, despite these challenges, I’ve committed to something extraordinary: The Legacy 10.
What Is the Legacy 10?
The Legacy 10 is a personal and physical test like no other. It’s a challenge to run 10 marathons in 10 weeks. Yes, you read that right. Ten marathons. Ten weeks. For anyone, this would be a daunting feat. For someone with cystic fibrosis, it’s monumental. But this journey isn’t just about running—it’s about legacy, resilience, and purpose.
My Training Journey
I’ve spent the past six months preparing for this challenge. It’s been a period of relentless hard work, combining time in the gym with miles on the road. As a member of Rye Bay Fitness, I’ve had an incredible support system to help me push through the physical strain and mental barriers. My gym time has been instrumental in building strength and stamina, ensuring my body can cope with the strain of running multiple marathons.
Training has been far from easy. Every step, every lift, and every deep breath comes with its own set of obstacles. But I’ve poured everything into this preparation because I know the magnitude of what lies ahead. This isn’t just a physical challenge; it’s a testament to my determination to live fully and leave a lasting impact.
The Meaning Behind the Legacy 10
This challenge holds deep personal significance. The Legacy 10 will culminate in London, marking the end of an era for me. It’s my final big challenge. My body simply cannot endure another undertaking of this scale. But it’s more than just a personal journey. It’s about raising awareness and funds, and it’s for those who have inspired me and those who will come after me.
I’ve shared the video that first announced this fundraiser—a heartfelt piece explaining why this will be my last challenge and the real reasons driving me forward. This is about creating a legacy, one that not only highlights the resilience of those living with CF but also honours the people and causes that mean so much to me.
A Final Push
The Legacy 10 is not just about me; it’s about hope, courage, and the power of community. With each step I take, I carry with me the stories and support of so many people who have helped make this dream a reality. If you’ve ever thought about what determination looks like, I hope my journey can be a small reflection of it.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey so far, especially the amazing team at Rye Bay Fitness. You’ve not only been my support system but also my inspiration to keep pushing forward. And to everyone who’s donated or shared my story, you’re helping to make this final challenge possible.
The Legacy 10 is more than a series of marathons. It’s the culmination of a lifetime of fighting, thriving, and refusing to let cystic fibrosis define me. As I approach the finish line in London, I know this isn’t just an end but a celebration of all that’s been achieved.
Let’s do this together.
